“The Third World of Women” is a story about beauty – women’s business in the society, which appears to be the theater of their enslavement.
Through costume, I design a way one tells a story. I’d like to appeal to people of a certain mindset rather than a specific age or physique. For me, fashion design is not about the sexual overkill and revealing or accentuating female anatomy. I prefer the idea of wrapping, shaping, rebuilding. It is a construction work that indicates the value of things that are beautiful but not merely pretty. Raw fabric edges, virgin human hair and right-side male buttons are here to articulate the direction rather than please aesthetically.
Each of eight silhouettes represents one woman from my life that had an impact on who am I now and what I aspire to be. My immediate family members, teachers and women I’ve never met.
