Funesta is crooked mirror, catalyst of experiences, metamorphoses and reflections. Funesta is an art project in which the creation of Agalma (the name given to Funesta's one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces) meets photography and performance art. Funesta's artistic practice in the creation of its Agalma pieces stems from an attempt to answer the question: “Now that your body no longer exists, where can I find you?” or even “Can I actually find you somewhere?”. This is where the process begins, which consists of collecting materials that have reached the end of their apparent life cycle. Thus, teeth, bones, dried herbs, insects found already dead, and photographs bought for a few euros at garage sales are collected, read as a memory at the end, which will no longer be carried or preserved. Nothing is killed, everything arrives when it should, bearing witness to a life that existed and that should be remembered with care. This brings us to the next stage: the material is cleaned, treated, assembled, or fused using direct experimental fusion techniques, without creating digital molds or models. In this way, the idea of directly melting what is left and putting it through a phase in which it is burned, then ‘purified’ and ‘charged’ in an alchemical dimension is a step felt was necessary. The last step is therefore to assemble and reposition what was at the “end” within a new order, which preserves the memory of its previous life, assigning it to a new destiny, another time, a new form, a new cycle, made “alive” by contact with the body and with the soul.
