Second Meditation, graphite on sketch paper, 50 x 65 centimeters, 2024.
In my second meditation, I continue my exploration of the automatic drawing process, but with a more defined sense of form emerging within the environment. What strikes me most in this piece is the way these forms appear almost bodily—evoking a sense of touch, weight, and presence. This ties directly to our innate relationship with form and the way we subjectively perceive and assign value to it. Our natural affinity for the human form and its familiar proportions imbues the piece with a sense of intimacy, even though it remains abstract. The lines are sensations, familiar yet untouchable, inviting a more visceral subjective engagement. — Maya Rae
