The sculpture “Fly” is made of bronze, with the eyes covered in a red patina, the body and legs in a black patina, and the wings polished. (Size 33x26x39)
A fly and a human are too disproportionate to understand each other. The problems of a fly seem small to us, and flies judge us in parts. The artist invites us to look at the world through the eyes of a fly, to see the world from the perspective of another species.
By enlarging the insect, the artist alters space, creating the illusion of an alternative universe where the human being seems to shrink in size.
Humans are used to attributing intelligence and emotions to dogs, horses, cats, and etc. , because it’s easier for us to look them in the eyes. However, our world is inhabited by a vast number of living organisms we rarely consider as sentient beings. The artist believes that a person capable of feeling compassion for a “seemingly insignificant” creature is also capable of feeling compassion for another human being.
