Description

two exhibitions organized by Artist Cafe Fukuoka will finally open.

At the gallery, we will exhibit works by Ryuta Fukumura, who shapes the circulation of materials and accumulation of time through ceramics using recycled silver, and Kansaï Noguchi, who expresses the fusion of multiple cultures through sculptures combined with physical sensations.

These two ceramic artists have faced contemporary society, re-examined the materials they use, and taken on the challenge of creating new works.

Please look forward to the first matchup exhibition of these two up-and-coming ceramic artists.

Artists: Ryuta Fukumura × Kansaï Noguchi

Artist Profiles

・Ryuta Fukumura

Born in 1989 in Fukuoka Prefecture. Completed the Ceramic Course Research Program at Kyushu Zokei Junior College of Art in 2010. In the same year, he began making pottery as the second-generation head of “Nichigetsu Kiln” in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture, his family’s kiln. While inheriting tradition, he explores new expressions using silver glaze from a contemporary perspective. The silver he uses is a recycled material collected and regenerated domestically. He emphasizes the background of the material and changes over time, shaping the natural beauty that objects possess through human touch.

・Kansaï Noguchi

Born in 1982 in Fukuoka Prefecture. After a career as a professional musician, he moved to the United States in 2013. During his stay in America, he encountered the works of Isamu Noguchi, which led him to study sculpture and ceramics upon his return to Japan. He explores the compatibility between the simplicity of Jomon pottery, Yi dynasty works, and ancient Greek sculpture with abstract expression, seeking to create forms that transcend cultures and eras. Incorporating an improvisational physical sense, he also utilizes his musical sensibilities in his creative work.

This exhibition, which encourages creative dialogue toward the future by re-examining the finite nature of the resources in our world and the diverse backgrounds that shape it, embodies the philosophy and raison d’être of our facility: “Connecting art and society, and cultivating new imagination.”

Through the works of each artist, we aim to create opportunities for each viewer to pose questions to the future society from Fukuoka and to deepen dialogue.

We hope that the ripple effects of dialogue and creativity that spread from this place will contribute to building a richer society from Fukuoka.

We look forward to your participation in this special opportunity.
