This piece was made during a very formative period in my life, and much of my work at this time was spent exploring chance and indeterminacy. To work with forces outside of your control, whether you believe them to be supernatural or coincidental, continues to be an important part of my work to this day. “Comic Book” was incredibly important in learning this, as was “in illo tempore” and in my work with Efface.

This piece is a sort of “negative” collage. Every figure and shape that had been cut out was deliberately chosen and removed from 35 pages, with the backing card being used as the cutting mat which is shown on the last slide. Can you tell what is missing? What can be realized when a story, a singular work, a genre, or even a medium has its most vital component removed? Can I really claim this to be my own work?

This post only provides a selection of pages from this piece. The work in full can be viewed on my portfolio site here.
