Also known as Masterwort; Family: Apiaceae; Origin: Europe; Flowering period: New Zealand (November-March); A hardy, drought-tolerant perennial.
Its name originates from Greek and means “star.”
Masterwort flowers are small and delicate, star-shaped, with a cushion-like center surrounded by a ring of longer tepals, resembling a pincushion surrounded by a paper collar. Masterwort is a hardy perennial; depending on the variety, the flower color can be light greenish-white, pink, or deep burgundy, growing in clusters at the top of a straight flower stalk.
Flower language: Longing for love, making a wish upon the stars.
PS: Seedlings are available in New Zealand, but rarely seen in cut flower markets.
