Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Asena Ak, and I am the founder of Interiors&Stuff, an Istanbul-based platform for design enthusiasts, creatives, designers, and architects. I am also an interior designer.
I established Interiors&Stuff in 2017, immediately after graduating from college. The platform has since grown organically, becoming a hub where people can find inspiration, explore new projects, and discover emerging talents and firms.
I have transitioned from a career in interior design to a focus on curating and brand management. Since 2020, my career now centers on Interiors&Stuff and also the creative communications aspect of the design field, working with renowned design firms.

Could you tell us about the things you like and why you like them?
I love spending time with people I care about and exercising, as it keeps me motivated and energized. I enjoy searching for content for Interiors&Stuff, exploring new designs, designers, and artists, and capturing moments through photography.
Traveling to new places is also a passion of mine, as it continually provides fresh inspiration and new perspectives.

How did your interest in furniture and interior design begin?
My interest began in early childhood at my grandmother’s house. She had a unique, self-improved taste and a beautiful home filled with vintage and antique pieces.
Her house mesmerized me, and spending time there felt like discovering a treasure box. She was always changing the design and adding new pieces, asking for my opinion and whether I noticed the changes. This experience deeply inspired me. Growing up, I was always interested in arts and design, which led me to study interior design in college and earn a master’s degree in the history of architecture.

Could you share what you have been up to recently?
My design platform, Interiors&Stuff, is always my priority, and evolving it is a never-ending journey.
Besides expanding Interiors&Stuff, I am providing creative communications consultancy for renowned design firms. This role is incredibly fulfilling as it allows me to contribute to and represent their designs, making a meaningful impact on their projects.
Are you interested in other forms of art besides interior design?
If so, what are your favorite works in those fields? Absolutely! I believe all forms of art are interconnected and constantly inspire one another. My top interests include painting, sculpting, and photography. When it comes to painting, I admire pieces like Danaë by Gustav Klimt and Albert Oehlen’s abstract works.
In Turkish art, I’m fascinated by the icons like Burhan Doğançay and the thought-provoking pieces by Yüksel Arslan, alongside rising talents like Pelin Çağlar and Sinan Saül.
For photography, Separation at Galata Quay by Ara Güler and Yıldız Moran’s 1950s captures of Mardin truly resonate with me. I’m also captivated by the surrealism in Dora Maar’s portrait by Man Ray. For sculpture, Alexander Calder’s mobile creations hold a special place for their dynamic beauty.

What do you think is the connection between architecture and furniture?
Architecture and furniture are intrinsically linked; they shape and influence each other. Furniture completes the architectural space, enhancing its functionality and aesthetics, while architecture provides the context and framework for the furniture. Together, they create a cohesive and harmonious environment that elevates the overall experience of a space.
What is a recent purchase you are pleased with, and why do you like it?
I recently bought a Panton chair in burgundy for my birthday. I love it because it’s a design classic and incredibly comfortable. It adds a touch of elegance and uniqueness to my space.
